If the Wi-Fi signal is poor in your room, you can try the following steps if you are using a Windows laptop to improve signal reception.
  1. Open Control Panel, click on Network and Sharing Center.
  2. On the left pane click on “Change Adapter Settings”
  3. Right click on the Wi-Fi icon and click on properties.
  4. Click on the configure button and then click on the Advanced tab.
  5. In the Property box “802.11 a/b/g Wireless Mode” should be selected.
  6. In the Value box, Dual band “802.11 a/b/g Wireless Mode” should be highlighted.
  7. If this is already set up and you are still having troubles connecting in the dorms, then change the Property box to “Channel with 2.4 GHz. Click Ok, restart the computer and go back to try the connection again.
